What do you think about use onlyoffice instead Collabora Online

You also can connect him with Nextcloud and it is already for production.

We would love to but there is small issue. Onlyoffice does not support nextcloud server side encryption which we are using.

Can you change it for a compatible encryption or add support for OnlyOffice to this encryption?

Just to make things clear we use multiple encryption mechanisms (one for everything and per service if applicable)
Disroot uses disk encryption where it does not matter for services whether we use it or not. This encryption protects our entire servers in case of sizure or theft of physical hardware (only when server as a result of power loss needs to be restarted). There is however nextcloud specific server side encryption developed by nextcloud developers team. This encryption athough server side (so your encryption key generated from your password is stored on the server) creates extra layer of encryption where without a man in the middle attack noone but owner of the account can decypher the files. Because of that encryption and the fact onlyoffice did not create a way to support it (unlike draw.io and collabora which we are considering to deploy soon) we cannot use it. As much as onlyoffice in terms of server resources is a much better solution, until this issue is solved by the developers of only office, we are unable to provide such service.

Hello,

Unfortunately if you enable the encryption with the per-user encryption keys (used by default in ownCloud/Nextcloud) ONLYOFFICE Document Server cannot open the encrypted files for editing and save them after the editing. The ONLYOFFICE section of the administrative settings page will display a notification about it. However if you set the encryption with the master key, ONLYOFFICE application will work as intended. But ownCloud/Nextcloud recommends using master encryption key only on fresh installations with no existing data, or on systems where encryption has not already been enabled. Please follow this link to find more information.

Sounds like Collabora will be the only option for now. I really look forward to that coming to disroot, even if the disadvantages as compared to Onlyoffice are quite disappointing. It will allow me to conduct my studies and reports almost entirly in-browser.
Until that gets resolved I can use collabora and when I really need Onlyoffice I can use that over webdav,

I hope Onlyoffice will add the key-mechanisms to its standard integration with nextcloud offering.

But thanks to both Onlyoffice and Disroot and Collabora for excellent services.

Oops Just read that cryptpad is going to be used because Onlyoffice and Collabora are considered to be to reseource intnesive or not permiting E2EE. That is a pity.
Or do I not understand it correctly?

Cryptpad is a separate service which we hope to deploy soon, but it has nothing to do with nextcloud.
As for collabora (since onlyoffice is out of the question due to unsupported encryption method). We are hoping one day to have it deployed. But as mentioned earlier it all depends on resource requirement to run it, and the financial situation of the project.

The new OnlyOffice client lets us edit directly in Nextcloud ("*The Desktop Editors’ connection to ownCloud, or Nextcloud requires ONLYOFFICE Document Server to be installed. ") unfortunately.

I do wonder if Nextcloud 15 may support per-user keys for encryption. If it does disroot could consider implementing OnlyOffice.

Hello!
We are glad to announce that we added support of encryption with the per-user encryption keys in the latest version of ONLYOFFICE integration application for Nextcloud. Please update the connector and check the functioning of Document Server with Nextcloud.

We would appreciate to get your feedback about this enhancement. It will help us in improving the product.

Holly crao! You are joking right? This is the news of the year. I’ll be deploying onlyoffice document server right away. Thanks a lot for reaching out to our little community and keeping us up to date.

Any chance for this now?

@chimera I’m working on it.

@AlexanderONLYOFFICE Seems like onlyoffice fails to download document (similar to what it was before). I haven’t done throught debug on this yet, but maybe you have a hint right away that would help. I hope to sit on this tonight, but not sure if this is caused by missconfiguration of the document server or issues between nc encryption module and onlyoffice app.

@AlexanderONLYOFFICE hmmm checking the release notes on nextcloud onlyoffice integration I see that the support is for support master key encryption and not per-user encryption.

But that was already working.

exactly. I’m pretty sure when i checked github release after @AlexanderONLYOFFICE post here the release notes said just encryption, now they are specific its Masker key encryption inprovements. I think we need to wait for clarification on that one. I poked them on nextcloud forum too, and this week will do the same on their git

As I see in this commit, it seems it was implemented support only to master encryption.

Edited: Maybe it is not released yet ¿?

@muppeth any update?

Nothing new. There was no release for per-user encryption support.
I keep monitoring the releases of onlyoffice nextcloud app, so once there is support for encryption we’ll test it right away.

New in version 5.0:

• Ability to connect cloud storage services: Nextcloud, ownCloud and others working via WebDAV.
